Joanna Little Obituary

Joanna May Little, 75, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 14, 2016, while visiting her sister in Cambridge, VT. Joanna was born November 16, 1941, in Boston, MA, the daughter of George and Irene Buhrig Little. She attended schools in Quincy, MA and Northeastern University. Joanna was a biochemist and medical researcher. She was a well published medical researcher. She worked at Boston University, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Texas, the University of Rochester, and completed her career at the University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences. Although a true Bostonian to the last, she grew to love the people and her home in Little Rock. She was a tireless worker for charities in Little Rock including the Great Dane rescue foundation and kitten and cat rescue for the Little Rock Humane Society. She fostered and adopted many Great Danes and kittens. She also loved books and cooking and was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. She is survived by her family: her sister, Dr. Georgeana Little, Cambridge, VT; her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Steven Little and Dr. Angeleque Akin-Little, Chasm Falls, NY; her cousins, Lillian Coleman, Nyack, NY, and Laura Little,Alexandria, VA. While we know she has simply transitioned into the light, she will surely be sorely missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations or volunteer time to be made in her name to any animal rescue organization. There will be a Memorial Service in celebration of her life in Little Rock in February. The family invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
