John J. “JJ” Maloney Essex John Jay “JJ” Maloney, 55, passed away at his home on Wednesday May 1, 2013 after a long and courageous battle. He was born in Albany, NY on October 22, 1957 son of John and Mary Gail (Heller) Maloney. JJ earned his Masters Degree in Physical Chemistry from University of California, Davis. He had been employed by IBM for 29 years. JJ married the former Katherine Ackerson on December 29, 1984. They moved to the Essex area 15 years ago. A devoted husband, father, and son, JJ treasured his family and friends. He enjoyed watching his sons compete in their many athletic events. JJ was an avid 49ers fan. He also had a love for automobiles and looked forward to driving around in his Mazda Miata. JJ was loved by many and will be missed by all those who truly knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Kay Maloney of Essex; his three sons Thomas (T.J.) of Boulder, Colorado; Michael and Steven of Essex; his parents John and Gail Maloney of CA; a brother Michael Maloney and wife Connie of TX; his two sisters Tammy Price and husband David of NV; Sandy Keeter and husband Jim of FL; his mother-in-law Deborah Ackerson of MA; Several nieces, nephews, cousins; and his faithful companions his Chocolate Lab Kimbo and Max the Cat. He was also predeceased by his daughter Kaitlin and his father-in-law Edmund Edwards Ackerson. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Peter Gunther, MD, Christian Thomas, MD, all of the staff at Vermont Center for Cancer Medicine, Good Health and Fletcher Allen Healthcare for the care and compassion they showed during JJ’s long battle. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 7, 2013 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Essex Chapel, 57 Main Street, Essex Jct., VT 05452. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Pius X, Essex Center with Reverend Richard Tinney officiating. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in JJ’s memory may be made to the American Liver Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
