Kathleen Ann Brown Zura passed away unexpectedly on Friday June 24th in Barre Town, Vermont at the age of 58. Kathleen was born on April 1st, 1958 in Hartford, Connecticut to mother Mary "Mae" (Gemme) Brown. She attended East Catholic High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from St. Joseph's College and later a Master's in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. Kathy contributed to the community as a social worker in the central Connecticut area from the 1980s to 2011. She inaugurated the Young Parents program of Salvation Army, linked children and families to services in a managerial role with the Family Friends program of Hartford Hospital, contributed to the launch of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center and was involved in the revitalization of the Dutch Point housing project. As part of these organizations, as well as a freelance writer of her side business Non-Profit Solutions, she penned many successful grants raising funds for various social service organizations. In 2011 she fulfilled a dream of relocating to Vermont, where she established a successful private counseling practice. Kathy loved quilting, sewing, crocheting and knitting. She spent much of her free time making quilts and blankets for her family. She is survived by her husband Wayne, sons Ben and Dan, and daughter Shaina, as well as uncle Robert and many cousins. Kathy was predeceased by mother Mary, father Charles and brother Thomas. The family is holding private services.
