Margaret Iona Lanphear Edwards Sweet (94) of Enosburg Falls, Vermont passed away at her home with her family and caregivers by her side on September 20, 2016. Margaret was born on June 27, 1922 to George and Josie (Hutchins) Lanphear in Eden, Vermont. As a young adult, Margaret moved to Connecticut with her sisters and started her working career for BF Goodrich. After moving back to Vermont, she married her first husband, Douglas Hugh Edwards, in 1944. Together they owned and operated dairy farms in Jeffersonville and Cambridge. After Douglas passed away in 1959, she worked as the Jeffersonville Postmistress for three years. Then, she purchased 25 first calf heifers and went back into dairy farming. Margaret married Guy A. Sweet in 1966. Until 1985, she operated the dairy farm in Jeffersonville and Guy operated his dairy farm in Enosburg Falls. In 1985, she sold the Jeffersonville farm to her youngest son, John and his wife, Brenda. At this time, she and Guy built a house in Enosburg Falls where they continued to farm. Margaret retired in 1992. She enjoyed her retirement years by taking care of her family, flower gardens, and vegetable flowers. Margaret is survived by her son, Gregory, and his wife, Phyllis, daughter-in-law, Brenda and her significant other Tom, grandchildren Stacey and her significant other, David, Douglas and his significant other, Norma, Adam, Eric, Jessica and her fiancé, Shannon, and Nathan, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Caitlyn, Desireé, Hanna, and Madeline, many nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by her first husband, Douglas, second husband, Guy, and son, John, she was also predeceased by her siblings Delmer, Ernest, Olive, Bertha, Kathleen, Norman, Roland, Franklin and Willard, as well as, a granddaughter, Erin Margaret. Margaret’s family would like to express gratitude and appreciation for the compassion and care provided to her by her in-home caregivers since June 2015, caregivers at Franklin County Home Health and Hospice and her longtime primary care provider, Dr. Donald Miller. Her family will receive friends Saturday, September 24, 2016 at A.W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main Street, Fairfax, Vermont at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. when a celebration of Margaret’s life will take place. Interment will immediately follow at the Binghamville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Franklin County Home Health and Hospice, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478.
