Marian A. Tobin

Marian (Adams) Tobin South Burlington Marian (Adams) Tobin, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Born on October 29, 1923, in Waterville, VT, she was the daughter of the late Howard Adams and Sylvia (Burns) Burnor, and step-daughter of the late Homer Burnor. She had been employed for many years at IBM as a Quality Control Specialist. Marian enjoyed a number of activities throughout her lifetime. Chief among them was baking, for which she earned a number of ribbons at the Champlain Valley Fair. She was particularly pleased when Taste of Home magazine selected her Maple Oatmeal Bread recipe for publication in their 2005 cookbook, The Best of Country Cooking. She shared many of her recipes with family, friends, and neighbors, either personally or through publication in the Mountain Gazette. Knitting and reading were also favorite pastimes. Marian also enjoyed living in Underhill, in the home she and Doug built. The garden and grounds, birds and wildlife, friends and neighbors made life on River Road so very pleasurable for over 40 years. She is survived by her son Jerry Hutchins and his wife Linda of Eagle Bridge, NY; grandchildren Kristin Hutchins of IL and Eric Hutchins of CA. She was predeceased by her first husband Gerald Hutchins in 1964 and her second husband Douglas Tobin in 2005. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Essex Alliance Church with Pastor Joe Moore officiating. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service. Inurnment will commence at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Underhill. Memorial contributions in Marian’s memory may be made to Essex Alliance Church, 37 Old Stage Road, Essex Junction,VT 05452.
