Mary Evelyn (Grybowski) Coffey Essex, Vermont Mary (Grybowski) Coffey, 92 passed away on June 23rd 2015 at her home in Essex after a long period of declining health. She was born in New York City, New York and was the daughter of the late John and Anna Grybowski. Mary, known to her siblings, nieces and nephews as “Mike” grew up in New York City. She graduated from James Monroe High School in the Bronx with secretarial training. She worked several places in New York before becoming a secretary for the Western Electric Company where she met and later married her husband William Coffey. She and her husband raised four sons in Northern New Jersey where she worked for Warner Lambert Pharmaceutical Company before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico, then Virginia Beach, VA and finally Essex Junction, Vermont. After retiring from Sandia Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM, Mary spent her time as a volunteer. In Virginia Beach she worked in the VA Beach Library system and in Vermont she was a volunteer at the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester and Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington. Later she volunteered at the elementary school in Essex, reading to children at the morning breakfast program and worked with the summer lunch program in Winooski. Mary was an active member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Essex Center. She was also an avid reader of fiction and enjoyed many books with the help of the Essex Free Library. Mary is survived by her sons James and his wife Sharlene of Christiansburg, VA; Michael and his wife Susan of Walden, VT; Patrick of Essex, VT; and Dennis and his wife Velta of Canal Winchester, OH. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick and his wife Hillary of Lyndhurst, OH; William of Canal Winchester, OH; Tyler and his wife Kristin of Johnstown, OH; Rachel together with Mary's two great grandchildren Carly and Miles of Canal Winchester, OH; and Daniel also of Canal Winchester, OH; her sister Josephine Shuell of New York; her brother Thaddeus Grybowski and his wife Eleanor of New Jersey and many beloved nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband William and her sister Julia Mikulka. A funeral mass will be held 1PM, July 18th at the St. Pius X Catholic Church located at 20 Jericho Rd in Essex, VT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Essex Meals on Wheels, 76 Pearl St #201, Essex Junction, VT 05452 or the Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden & Grand Isle Counties, 1110 Prim Rd, Colchester, VT 05446.
