Mary “Alice” Rivers JERICHO Mary “Alice” Rivers, 91 passed away peacefully December 9, 2012 at the Burlington Health and Rehab with her niece, Donna Hutchins and her dear friend, Sandy Tillotson by her side. Alice was born November 30, 1921 in Pascoag, Rhode Island. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Anna (Lavoie) Dumas. She graduated from Burlington High School class of 1939 and from the University of Vermont. Alice operated a beauty shop out of her parent’s home in Burlington for many years. She also worked as a chemist at IBM until her retirement. She married Donald A. Rivers in 1964. They spent their life together on the farm in Jericho. Together they enjoyed operating the farm and gardening. Don predeceased her in 1985. In 1986 Alice made a generous donation of her farm and land to the Underhill-Jericho Fire Department. In later years, Alice enjoyed taking seniors to lunches and spending time with them. She loved her spring and fall trips to the Middlebury Inn. It was there that she met her companion of ten years William Eisner of Greensboro. Bill predeceased her in 2011. Alice then moved back to her farm in Jericho for the remainder of her life. Alice is survived by her nieces and nephews, Donna (Frank) Hutchins, Brenda (Timmy) Shea, Mary Skog, Patty (Howard) Wells, Mary (Richard) Weeter, Fred (Brenda) Dumas and Thomas (Alison) Dumas, her sister-in-law Margaret Dumas Carter of Virginia and her special friends, Dave and Sandy Tillotson of Jericho. Alice was also predeceased by her brothers, Hubert (Beansie) and Roland. The family would like to thank the staff at the Burlington Health and Rehab for the love and care given to Alice these past three months. At Alice’s request there will be no visiting hours or memorial service held. A private graveside service will take place in the spring in the family lot in Jericho Center Cemetery.
