Patricia Brosseau Obituary

Jeffersonville - On September 19, 2019, the world lost a wonderful mother and Meme. Patricia Brosseau passed away in her home where she wanted to be. Every year on her birthday, December 17th she would tell you that she was born ten days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. This always stood as a testament that she was born during a time when we stood together even in tough times. Even as a child, Patricia knew her mind (stubborn some would call it) and would often get her way if she asked her mom, Fanny, instead of her dad, Irving Delahanty. Many said it was the red hair, others said it was her Irish heritage. She would say she was just being independent. As a child, Patricia would ride her bike down the streets of Warren, Ohio playing until the street lights came on. With her mom, they would travel to meet her father who was often in a different city for business. This started her love of travel and seeing new places. Growing up, Patricia was a Girl Scout until her club decided they wanted to travel more and became a traveling teen group. She recounted many stories of eating out and seeing plays in New York City. As a person who loved art, Patricia also became part of the set design team and usher at the Kenley Players in Warren, Ohio where she was able to see Geneveve, Betty White, Ginger Rogers and many more. She continued to love going to see plays at the Flynn, Lamoille County Players, and the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. Although she loved art, numbers appealed to her more. She became a bookkeeper for a car dealership so she could have new convertibles every year. Her favorite was the 1957 Chevy Convertible, cherry red with white interior. She would always look for this car when antique car shows came to Vermont in her later years. As mentioned, Patricia’s traveling bug didn’t stop with her teen group. She started skiing and realized if she ran the tours, she could go for discounted prices and travel more. She would run ski trips all over the country during the weekend and be back to work on Monday morning. She would tell others that she worked hard so she could do exactly what she wanted to do. In her twenties, Patricia’s skiing activities brought her to Vermont where she eventually started bookkeeping at a ski shop in Stowe. She also worked in admitting at Copley Hospital for a short time before meeting her future husband, Omer. Together, Patricia and her husband ran Brosseau Supermarkets in Morrisville, Hyde Park, Johnson, and Jeffersonville along with raising their children. Stories are still being told of the birthday parties at the family camp and the Halloween parties at their home. Patricia was her happiest any time she could plan a party and cook for her family. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday as she started cooking many days before creating at least twelve pies and enough food to feed an army. Once Patricia became a Meme` she found her true joy in life. She loved spending time with them, sharing her love of Mickey Mouse and making their birthday cakes. She made sure they knew she would be there for them any time or day. Patricia loved introducing her grandchildren to travel and often took them to the beach. Her favorite location was a beachfront hotel in Myrtle Beach. She could see the waves for miles and shop for hours. Patricia was even convinced to take a helicopter ride with one grandchild. Although Patricia’s family and friends will miss her greatly, they will remember her as a woman who loved her family and her cooking. Many will also remember her stubbornness, too. Patricia survived by her son James and his wife, Mary, of Morrisville, her daughters Joanne, Jacqueline and Jannette, of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Joshua, Dakota, Thomas, Destiny, Jonathan, Matthew, Jameson, Craig; best friend and sister in law, Simonne Brosseau of West Berkshire, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Omer; son, John Paul, step-daughter Donna Demars, and many in-laws, most recently Roger Brosseau. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. For those who wish to contribute and in lieu of flowers, contributions to Patricia’s memory can be made to Bishop John A. Marshall School, 680 Laporte Road, Morrisville, Vermont 05661. The family invites you to share your memories and condolences by visiting www.awrfh.com.
