Richard L. “Dick” Carpenter Jeffersonville Richard L. “Dick” Carpenter, 76 passed away on Tuesday December 24, 2013 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in Jeffersonville on July 28, 1937 son of the late Errol and Bernice (Machia) Carpenter. Dick graduated from Cambridge High School in 1956 and married Hazel Erno on July 27, 1957 in Cambridge. In his earlier years he served as a member of the VT National Guard, as a member of the Cambridge fire dept and the ski patrol at Smugglers Notch. Later on in life he served the Town of Cambridge as a selectmen for 18 years, held most all positions in the Smugglers Notch Snowmobile Club and was a board member at the Copley Country Club. Dick loved the outdoors and spent his summers at the golf course and his winters on his snowmobile and in the groomer smoothing trails. He was voted “Groomer of the Year” in 2007 by VAST. Most of all Dick loved spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Hazel Carpenter of Jeffersonville; three sons Rodney Carpenter of St. Albans; Terry Carpenter and his wife Laurie of Jeffersonville; Craig Carpenter and wife Nikki of Johnson; Aunt Pat Carpenter; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also predeceased by his brother Edward Carpenter and sister Barbara Gordon. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday January 2, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at A. W. Rich Funeral Home – Fairfax Chapel, 1176 Main St. Fairfax, VT 05454. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday January 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Cambridge with Reverend Charles R. Danielson officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to the Copley Country Club c/o Sheila Darrah, P.O. Box 51, Morrisville, VT 05661 so that a memorial bench can be placed in his honor.
