Richard Shepard

Richard Clarence Shepard of Essex Junction passed peacefully on October 19, 2016 at the VNA Respite house surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on November 01, 1926 to Beatrice Moore Shepard and Clarence Louis Shepard in St. Albans, Vermont. He attended schools in St. Albans and graduated from Bellows Free Academy in 1944. He was drafted into the United States Army upon graduation from school and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked for the Central Vermont Railway until 1957 when he accepted work at IBM. He retired as an Industrial Engineer on May 1, 1982. He married Marjorie E. Way in October of 1957. She was the love of his life for 59 years until his passing. He is survived by one brother, Ronald and his wife Eleanor, his sister-in-law Claire Shepard and Sister-in-law Katherine Way. He was pre-deceased by his brother Louis Paul Shepard and his brother-in-law Marvin Way. He leaves his son Todd Christopher Shepard and his wife Joyce, his grandchildren, Kristen Frazier Bauer and her husband TJ of Texas, Joy Lafountain, Gordon Lafountain and his wife Jenna, Christopher Shepard, and Samantha Sweeney and her husband Danny of Milton, Vermont. He leaves several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition, he leaves his daughter, Michelle Nancy Vanderbilt and her husband Doug also of Texas. Richard Loved camping on the lake, fishing in Labrador, skiing and snowmobiling. Parenting his children and babysitting his grandchildren was the love of his life. He adored his family and was loved and will be missed by all of them. There will be a service for his immediate family at a time of their choosing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Essex Area Senior Center, 2 Lincoln Street, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
