Robert Knapp

Robert A. “Bob” Knapp Colchester Robert Allen “Bob” Knapp, 87, passed away Sunday September 11, 2011 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on September 14, 1923 son of the late Geraldus and Florence (Tubbs) Knapp. He had been proud to serve as a medic with the US Army during WWII. Bob was an avid rail fan, growing up in St. Johnsbury, where he met his wife of 64 years, Jackie Phelps. Following his Dad’s career path, Bob joined the Morton Salt Co., and moved to Essex Jct., in 1953. As a very dedicated Mason of 65 years and a proud Shriner of the Greater Burlington Cellar Savers, Bob also enjoyed Nascar, golfing and bingo. In retirement he and Jackie enjoyed 20 years wintering in Florida. He was also a member of Burlington Elks #916 and Temple Chapter O.E.S. Bob will miss his coffee buddies he met up with every morning. He is survived by his loving wife Jackie (Phelps) Knapp of Colchester; his two sons Gary Knapp of Hinesburg; Larry Knapp and wife Robin of Colchester; his daughter Gail Campagna of Waterbury; his brother Milton Knapp of Colchester; four grandchildren Corey Campagna and wife Erika; Colby Campagna; Jason Knapp; Heather Casavant; two great grandchildren: Orion and Avery Casavant; two nephews Rick Knapp and wife Leona of Colchester; Steve Knapp and wife Pam of OH. There will be no visiting hours held. A funeral service will be held on Friday September 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Essex Jct. with the Reverend Mark Mendes officiating. Inurnment will follow in the family lot in Fairview Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded this WWII veteran.
