Sara Wright Obituary

Sara L. “Sally” (Reynolds) Wright Essex Sara Laura “Sally” (Reynolds) Wright, 91, passed away at her home on Saturday December 20, 2014. She was bon in Williamsport, PA on November 10, 1923 daughter of the late Frank and Edith (Brittian) Reynolds. Sally, as she was known to friends, was born, grew up, married and started her family in Williamsport Pennsylvania. But when her husband Earl got a job with IBM she moved over the next several years to Zena, Chittenango and then Hurley New York, where she raised her own family. She was a wife and mother but also had time to be active in both her church and her community wherever she lived. When Earl died in 1977 she applied and got a job at the Kingston hospital first in the administrative offices and then as a floor clerk on the pediatrics floor. She had many stories to share and always kept herself busy. But in 1983 she moved to Vermont to share the rest of her long life with her daughter Judy. Wherever she went she made friends and enjoyed life. She was active in her church; both in Bible studies and in service to the church. She held positions as Financial Secretary, Worship Committee Chair, Mission committee member to name a few. She also was very active in the mission work of the United Methodist Women. She was always active in the community. In Kingston she and her best friend Doris were volunteers at the Kingston Hospital; working both in the snack bar (many stories here) and on the front desk delivering mail and flowers and getting people to the right place. As soon as she moved to Vermont she went looking for volunteer work and soon was working on the front desk at the Fanny Allen hospital. She also worked in a clerical capacity for the free clinic at the hospital. She didn’t seem to mind getting up very early in the morning when she volunteered to work for the Red Cross blood drive at IBM in Essex and had to be there at 3:00 in the morning. When she was asked to work at the polls giving out ballots and counting votes she volunteered right away and then was surprised to find out that there was a pay check to be had. She was always generous with her time. In her own time she enjoyed long walks with friends even in the cold of winter. In summer she enjoyed gardening and spent many hours weeding and planting outside and growing violets and Christmas cacti inside. Every morning she would read the paper and start the crossword puzzle and the puzzle stayed by her chair in the family room until she had finished every clue. Even in her last days she kept her wonderful sense of humor and her care and concern for those around her. She was loved very much and will be greatly missed but we know that she has gone to her reward for years of love and caring. Sara is survived by her two sons David Wright and wife Judy of South Burlington; Earl Wright Jr., of SC; her two daughters Cassandra Barnett and husband Robert of PA; Judy Wright of Essex; grandchildren Dan Wright and wife Anne; Stephanie Barnett; Tammy and Gary Sandt; Julie Wright; Connor Wright and her great granddaughter Meghan Sandt. She was also predeceased by her husband Earl D. Wright Sr. Per Sara’s wishes there will be no public visiting hours held. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at Essex United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Revered Mitchell Hay officiating. Inurnment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
