Shirley Slayton Obituary

Shirley Jean (French) Slayton Belvidere Shirley Jean, 66, passed awayfollowing a long and courageous battle with diabetes on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the McClure Miller VNA Respite House in Colchester, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 29, 1950 in Morrisville to Edward Sr. and Maryline (Whitcomb) French. She graduated from Lamoille Union High School in 1969 and married her high school sweetheart on August 14, 1971. She enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, trips to Maine, and listening to her husband play his guitar. Shirley dedicated her life to helping and caring for others. She selflessly and whole heartedly cared for several family members throughout the years in their time of need. She took this dedication to another level when she studied tirelessly and became a LNA. She was proud of this achievement and her family joyously shared this accomplishment with her. She was both admired and respected by her co-workers and residents at both Genesis HealthCare and Copley Manor. Shirley Jean is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 46 years, Dwight (Chuck) Slayton and her children Heather, Christopher, Chad, and Conrad Slayton all of Belvidere; grandchildren Kody Deuso, Dylan Germaine, Alyssa, Wyatt, Alexis, David, Tristin, and Blake Slayton; great grandchild Gannon Germaine; her mother Maryline French, brother Michael (Patsy) French, and sister Betty (Harold) Ingalls of Johnson. Shirley was predeceased by her father Edward French Sr., father in-law and mother in-law Charles Sr. and Evadeen Slayton, and brothers Edward French Jr. and Roger French. Per Shirley’s wishes there will be no services held at this time. A graveside service will be held in the Spring in the family lot in Belvidere Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Belvidere Center Cemetery, 3996 Vt Route 109, Belvidere, VT 05442.
