Rutland - Local Centenarian T. Niblo Creed (Nib) died on Oct 29, 2015 at Vermont Respite House near Burlington, following a brief illness. He was healthy and active most of his life, enjoying tennis, skiing, flying and long walks. He had a strong work ethic and a positive outlook on life, enjoying “everything in moderation.” He was born Dec. 30, 1914 in Peekskill, NY the son of William B. and Mabelle S. Creed. He attended Mohegan Lake Academy, Amherst College and NYU. He served in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII. He owned and operated Creed Bros. Lumber Company in Peekskill, NY and later expanded to 3 additional locations. He retired to VT but soon began working at Brandon Lumber at age 74 continuing until age 99.

Over the years he was a member of Kiwanis and Rotary and on the board of directors of a major bank, a regional hospital, the YWCA and the National Retail Lumber Assoc.. In 2009 he received the lifetime achievement award from the Vermont Retail Lumber Dealers Association.


He is survived by his children, Hope Skilling, William Creed, Catharine Wark and Tomalyn Johnson; grandchildren, Gregory Skilling, Christopher Wark, Benjamin Creed, Ellaguin Johnson, Weland Johnson and Gwendolyn Johnson; great grandchildren Sarah Skilling, Julie Skilling,Marin Wark and MacKenzie Wark.

He was pre-deceased by two wives, Priscilla and Carolyn, his brother Richard Creed and grandson Jeffrey Skilling.

Mr. Creed’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes placed in a pine box for future distribution. No service is planned at this time. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
