Velma May Porter Obituary

Velma (Pecor) Porter died January 9, 2016, at the Vermont Respite House.

Velma was born in Bolton, VT, on June 7, 1918, to Gertrude and Bert R. Pecor. Having lived to be 97, she would often say with a smile, “I’m old,” but despite her age, Velma was proud to be able to live independently at MacKenzie House; as well, she enjoyed being the darling of the Windjammer Restaurant, where, over the years, she savored countless meals with her son, Rick.

Velma outlived her entire family: husband, Walter Porter, brothers Raymond, Everett, Graton and Bert Pecor and her two sisters, Marion (Pecor) Longe and Pauline (Pecor) Dean. She is survived by her son, Richard Porter, and his wife, Linda, of Jericho, VT, by her granddaughter, Chloe Porter, of Essex Jct., VT, and by several nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to Dr. Michael Latreille and his team and to the staff on Baird 3 at the University of Vermont Medical Center for the kind, compassionate care given to Velma and to the staff at Vermont Respite House, who thoughtfully provided for her comfort in her final days.

At Velma’s request, there are no calling hours and no service. Inurnment will be in the spring beside her husband Walter at the convenience of the family. Donations in her memory may be given to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Lane, Williston, VT 05495
