Verna Jackson Obituary

Verna Jackson South Burlington Verna Doris Jackson, 83, passed away at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT on January 13. 2012. She was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on Feb 5, 1928 to the late Clifford and Anne Wolfe and grew up on the family farm. At Oklahoma State University she majored in Home Economics and met her future husband, Weldon Jackson. Later, she attained a Masters in Education at Fitchburg State College. At various times in her life she taught Home Economics at the high school and college level. She loved teaching, cooking, traveling, volunteering, and was active in her church and community. As an Army wife, she devoted herself to raising her two sons and providing a home for her family throughout the more than 17 moves that included Oklahoma, Georgia, Kansas, Texas, North Carolina, Germany, West Virginia, and Massachusetts. She was an internationally renowned porcelain china painter whose specialty was roses. She loved to share her passion for china painting and was constantly sought after to teach the art. The many pieces she produced brought her much recognition and will be always valued by her family. Verna enthusiastically supported all her grandchildren and followed their activities passionately. For 14 years she attended all of Hillary’s twice a year ballet performances. She was Shannon’s most enthusiastic basketball fan in the stands. She loved for Ryan to give a piano concert for her and the other Allenwood residents. Verna loved to hear about Mathew and Kevin’s soccer and baseball exploits. She was proud of Christen’s ballet and tap dancing. She shared her grandchildren’s affinity for hot fudge sundaes, actually anything chocolate. She will be remembered for her frankness, devotion to others, china painting, but most of all, she was a lady at all times. We wish to thank the devoted staff at Allenwood and at Fletcher Allen Health Center for their help these last seven years. She always appreciated their help. Verna is survived by SON Brad Jackson and wife Michelle of Essex Junction, VT, their children Hillary, Shannon, Ryan; SON Michael L. Jackson and wife Carol of Atlanta, GA, their children Christen, Matthew, Kevin; BROTHER Charles Wolfe and wife Ilene of Honaker, VA, his children Steve, Craig, Christy, Lori, Lisa; BROTHER Kent Wolfe and wife Karen of Midlothian, VA. She was also predeceased in 2000 by her husband, Weldon Jackson. Donations can be made in her memory to the education fund of the International Porcelain Artists and Teachers, P.O. Box 1807, Grapevine, TX 76099, to be used to promote the art of china painting. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Jan 19 at 6:00-8:00pm at the A. W.
