Violet L. (Johnson) Boyden, Williston Vilolet Louise (Johnson) Boyden, passed away peacefully August 12, 2013 at St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in St Albans, VT. She was a Southern Lady, born in Cullman Alabama on July 31, 1932, daughter of Henry Brown and Ella Jewel (Andrews) Johnson. She grew up on her parent’s farm and in her last summer on the farm, picked by hand over 4,000 pounds of cotton. She attended West Point High School in Cullman Alabama. She married Leslie Eugene Bates on Jan 16 1949. They had two sons Donald Gene and Ronald De Wayne. She married James Albert Willis on August 8, 1956. They had a daughter, Mary Ann. At 47, Louise returned to school and graduated with honors from Bessemer State Technical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her nursing career spanned over 20 years and was culminated as Charge Nurse of an Alzheimer facility for 10 years. After retiring she married Norman Joshua Boyden III “Pat” on March 22, 2001 and moved to Vermont. She loved to tell folks, with her deep southern drawl that she was from Southern Vermont. They would always answer “Maybe a little further south.” She is survived by her husband, Norman “Pat”, and her sister, Joyce (Johnson) Reed of Pinson AL. She is also survived by her children: Donald Willis, his wife Ann, and Ronald Willis, his wife Delores both of Lebanon TN, Mary Ann (Willis) Sisson and her partner James C. Sanderson of Fairview TN. Also her step children: Karen Boyden Mendes and her husband Mark of Essex Junction VT, Charlotte Boyden Churchill and her husband Seth of Colombia MD, Laura Boyden Fetterolf and her husband Shawn of Grenoble France and her Grandchildren: Donald G Willis Jr. his wife Ashley, Joseph R Willis, Joshua J Sisson, Nicholas G and Margaret K P Mendes, Sarah G and Emma K Churchill, Independence E A and Truth I A Fetterolf. her Great-Grandchildren: Ethan W and Cannon G Willis. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Ella Jewell Johnson, her siblings Clara V and Everett J. Johnson, her in-laws Norman J Boyden Jr , his wife Ann and her former husbands Gene Bates and Jim Willis Celebration of Life Ceremony at First Baptist Church, 81 St Paul St, Burlington VT will be held Saturday September 7 at 10:00 am.
