Virginia Pierce

Virginia “Ginny” L. Pierce Essex Junction Virginia “Ginny” L. Pierce, 96 formerly from Cambridge and Jeffersonville passed away on September 27, 2016. Born in Waterville, VT on February 9, 1920, Virginia was the daughter of the late Walter and Maude (Burnette) Locke, wife of the late Donald Pierce and mother of the late Cleta Wheeler. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ethel Colburn, Hazel Emory and Gerald Locke. Virginia was a member of the Eastern Star Organization and a parishioner at both the Essex Center United Methodist Church and Jeffersonville Second Congregational churches. Virginia graduated from Cambridge High School and ran a gift shop and grocery store in Jeffersonville with her husband before working at IBM. Throughout her life Virginia had many interests ranging from gardening, skiing, playing her organ, riding her bicycle and making homemade donuts. She also enjoyed visiting Florida and spending time with her beloved cat Rascal. Virginia is survived by 3 grandchildren; Robin Moody and husband James of Charlestown, MA, Donald Wheeler and wife Dana of Huntsville, AL, and Philip Wheeler of Vashon Island, WA, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all. Per Virginia’s wishes there will be no visiting hours held. Funeral services will be held at the Second Congregational Church in Jeffersonville on Monday October 3rd at 11:00 followed by the burial at the Mountain View Cemetery in Waterville. Memorial contributions in Virginia’s memory may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478.
