Ardelle St. Gelais

ARDELLE (LAWRENCE) ST. GELAIS - WINOOSKI - Ardelle (Lawrence) St. Gelais, 87, a longtime resident of Winooski, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the Vermont Respite House in Williston on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015. Ardelle was born in Essex Junction on Jan. 14, 1928, the daughter of Howard and Helen (Bergeron) Lawrence. Following graduation from Essex High School in 1946, she was employed at National Biscuit and then was a stay at home mother while working part time at Delta Electric. After retirement, belonging to several camping groups, she enjoyed camping with her husband, Leonard, enjoying many outings and trips visiting family and friends in many states. Ardelle was very talented and enjoyed crafting from knitting to sewing to crocheting. She also enjoyed reading and was the best cook ever. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma. Ardelle is survived by her husband of 51 years, Leonard St. Gelais; daughter, Denise St. Gelais; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Laurie St. Gelais; and grandchildren, Jamie and Kyle St. Gelais. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law and their families, Donald Lawrence, Allen and Jean Lawrence, and Mariette Lawrence; her longtime best friend, Frances Bovat; and the St. Gelais brothers, sisters, and in-laws and their families. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Robert Lawrence (infant), and Kenneth Lawrence; sister-in-law, Christine; and members of the St. Gelais family. The St. Gelais family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and volunteers on McClure floors of the the UVM Medical Center and the Vermont Respite House. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at 10 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Barlow Street in Winooski. Interment will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.lavignefuneralhome.com. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of one's choice.
