Donald L. King Obituary

King,Donald- 88, Passed peacefully surrounded by his family on June 28, 2019

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary Jane, his sons, David (Cheryl), of Colchester, Robert (Barbara) of Essex Jct. and his daughter, Paula (Steve) Draper of South Burlington.

Don leaves behind grandchildren, Randy and Rebecca Alemy, Justin King, Kelly Rabidoux, Nicole Myers, Erin Piche and Colin Hartigan. He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren and has two more on the way.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Helen King, in-laws, Harvey and Ethel Marrier and his much beloved daughter, Dawn Hartigan.

Don was born in Colchester and raised in Burlington. He joined the Army and attained the rank of Master Sargent serving in Japan and Korea. He was a member of The Chosin Few. He continued to serve after the war a the Army National Guard.

Don worked for the Burlington Light Department and was then was motivated to start his own business, Don King Electric which he ran for 31 years to retirement.

He was very active in the North End Little league serving in many capacities. As an avid camper he and Mary Jane belonged to many camping groups and made many life long friends through camping. His love of camping has been passed down throughout his entire family. There will never be a camp fire that he will not be remembered. Stories he told, his advice and humor will always be remembered and shared especially around our camp fires.

Upon retirement Don and Mary Jane traveled the United States in their motor home. He spoke most fondly of their adventures in Alaska.

They were fortunate enough to have a second home in Florida where they enjoyed well deserved warm winters surrounded by the best neighbors, who have become close friends.

Don will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and ability to fix or create anything and his willingness to help anyone in need. His sense of humor made you feel like you were part of his family, and, you were.

He taught us all that life is what you make of it, hard work really does pay off, and that taking care of your family is the best kind of legacy you can create...

Godspeed Pepe. Give Dawn a huge hug. We will love and miss you for all the days of our lives. Until later....See you on the other side.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Judes Children Hospital or VT Home Health and Hospice.
