Howard Vanderhoof

Howard R. Vanderhoof, 92, originally of Colchester VT, died peacefully with family members on 30 August 2015. He was born Oct 8, 1922, in Burlington, Vermont. He was the son of Jonas Darious and Nancy Blanche (Labelle) Vanderhoof. He attended the Mallets Bay public schools in Colchester and graduated from Edmunds High School in Burlington (Vermont). He married the former Mary Louise Lamphere on 27 May 1943 in Burlington (Vermont) who predeceased him on Aug 14, 1984. Howard recently sold his home in Hyde Park to move closer to his Son and Daughter in Madison, AL. Howard was a member of the Vermont Maple A's Club and had restored several Ford Model A's. As a long time residence of Colchester (88 years) he was part of the town's history serving as their first Fire Chief as well as owning and operating a City Service Gasoline and Automotive Repair Service Station for several years. In the 1930's his parents bought the town's One Room Log Schoolhouse and moved it to their Spaulding East Shore address adding a kitchen and porch to the house where they lived for many years until their passing. After his parents passed the house was sold and years later when the owners decided that they wanted to tear down the old house to build a new home they found the log one room building. After talking to Howard they realized that they had a piece of Colchester's history. They contacted the Colchester Town Historian who readily accepted the log school house where it eventually was moved and restored to its current location as a Museum and Information Center at Airport Park (Colchester). He is survived by his daughter Donna Lee (Vanderhoof) Tuck and her husband Jerry of Madison, AL and their five children, Alden of Madison, AL and his three children Christopher; Victoria and James ; Eric and his wife Monica of Madison, AL and three children, Danielle; Lauren; and Nicholas; Amy (Tuck) Cabrera and her husband Luis of Seattle, WA and their two children, Andres and Emily; Julianna and her husband Johnathon Carlson of Madison, AL and their five children, Abram; Dylan; Lianna; Nathan and Stephen; Adam and his wife Heather of Huntsville, AL and their three children, Sara Ann; Matthew; Josephine; his son Ronald and his wife Eva (Rondeau) of Athens, AL and their four children, Kathleen (Vanderhoof) Ginsbach and her husband Jeremy of Menlo Park, CA , and their son Laithe and her son Harrison (Warming) of CA; Heather (Vanderhoof) Jewett and her husband Dennis of Bakersfield, VT and daughter Sierra; Victoria (Vanderhoof) Greenia and her husband John of Eden, VT and their three children, daughters Maya and Charlotte and son Joshua; Brian Vanderhoof and his wife Dawn (Hoffman) of Union Bridge, MD and their three boys, Monte, Wolfgang and Gabriel; and two great great grandchild. He was predeceased by his first son Ray H. Vanderhoof (23 Feb 2008) who was a longtime residence of Burlington, VT and former member of the Vermont National Guard. Howard is also predeceased by his parents and four siblings: Dorothy (Begins); Charles; Nina (Guyette); and Jonas. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM to 11:00AM Saturday, September 5, 2015 at The Church of Latter-day Saints - Essex Jct Chapel, 73 Essex Way, Essex Jct, VT 05452. A Funeral Service will be at 11:00AM Saturday at the Church. Interment will be Saturday at 2:00PM at Lakeview Cemetery Burlington.
