Jeannine Dattilio Obituary

Jeannine (Jenny) A. Dattilio, loving mother and servant of the Lord, was called to the home of her Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by her loving family on June 28, 2019 Jeannine was born on July 18, 1929 in Burlington VT, the eldest daughter of Arthur and Alice Danis. Within her loving family, Jeannine had two sisters, Gisele (Marshall) Fleming and Norma (Chuck) Daley; and four brothers, Claude (Marie) Danis, Leon (Susan) Danis, Albert (Joan) Danis and Paul (Lessie) Danis. The family grew up in the shadows of St. Anthony’s parish in the Lakeside area of Burlington, VT. She attended St. Anthony’s grade school where she was first in her class and Mt. St. Mary’s Academy graduating in 1947. Her life changed forever when she met Michael Donato Dattilio, her devoted and loving husband of 48 years. They were married on July 4, 1949 in St. Anthony’s Church. Together they settled on Iby Street in South Burlington where they raised a strong and devoted family of seven children, Brenda (Chuck) Johnson; Mickey (Happy) Dattilio; Kenny (Sue) Dattilio, Dan (Sherry) Dattilio; Joanne (Kevin) Holcomb; Judy (Tim) Palermo and Maryanne (Kevin) McGrath. They were blessed with 18 grandchildren; Wendy, Corey, Reyvan, Chris, Tory, Patrick, Brad, Katie, Rachel, Emily, Jessi, April, Amber, Matthew, Meghann, Tanner, Ben & Jenny, and 23 great-grandchildren and two more soon to be! Jeannine had a deep faith and strong love for God. She practiced the word of the Bible in her everyday life. She sought to spread the word of the Lord through her own ministry to those people who surrounded her life. She was past President of the Christian Women’s and the Women’s Aglow Fellowship group and a leader in the St. Lawrence prayer group. She attended several Christian conferences, hosted many weekend retreats and conducted several Bible Studies. Her ministries also included volunteering at Fletcher Allen and Fanny Allen Hospitals where she ministered to patients of all denominations. In 2005, she was recognized by Bishop Angell for her dedication to the Lord’s ministry with a special mass and a Rite of Recognition. She was a long- time member of St. John Vianney Parish in South Burlington, VT. Jenny and Mike, together with their children, and eventually their grandchildren, began Dattilio’s Catering in the 1980’s. They enjoyed preparing and serving meals for many a wedding, Christmas Party, National Guard outings and social gatherings they were involved in. Jeannine was predeceased by her husband Mike on May 19, 1997, her parents Arthur and Alice Danis, her sisters Norma and Gisele, her brother Claude, and her sisters-in-law Beverly, Ellen and Susan. She leaves behind her family, many nieces and nephews and friends but has left us with many memories and with lessons of love and faith. We will all remember her love for the Red Sox! A very special thanks to her caregivers, Laurie Farnsworth, Karen Lemieux, Louise Brown, and Phoebe Jahnke for their unwavering care and support of our mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. John Vianney Church with internment to follow at Resurrection Park. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Burlington Rehabilitation Center Resident Fund, c/o Patty Trombley, 300 Pearl Street, Burlington VT 05401, a charity of your choice and continuous acts of kindness in memory of Jeannine.
