Normand Mercure Obituary

NORMAND "BUZZ" MERCURE SOUTH BURLINGTON - Normand "Buzz" Mercure, 72, passed away on April 15, 2015, at his home with his loving family by his side. Buzz was born Aug. 1, 1942, to Normand and Jeannette (Erwin) Mercure in Colchester. He attended St. Francis Xavier School and Rice Memorial High School. He spent his entire career in the beverage distributing business, working for Vermont Fruit Company, 7-UP Bottling Company, and most recently Baker Distributing, from where he retired due to his illness. He is survived by the love of his life of 51 years, Kathleen "Kit;" son, Scott (Kelly); daughters, Kim (Max and sons), Stacey (Jeremy), and Kelley; and four grandchildren, Hailey, Lindsey, Raelin, and CJ, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Joan (Fred), Jackie (Jerry), Mike (Betty), Annie (Dick), Tom (Sheila), and their children; special aunt, Kay (Dave) Hawley; special uncle, Glenn (Ann) Erwin; brother-in-law, Al Pierce; sisters-in-law, Carol (Bob) Tilley, and Dee Meunier; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Buzz was a dedicated and hard-working man. He was a great role model and a mentor to many over the years. He was always the first one there when anyone needed a helping hand. His keen wit and sense of humor will be forever missed by all of the lives he touched. His life can be summarized in a quote by Benjamin Franklin, "Work as if you were to live 100 years; pray as if you were to die tomorrow." His family would like to give special thanks to his medical team including Dr. Emmons, Dr. Gagne, his sweet Tara whom he loved, Janet Ely, and the rest of their staff at the Oncology Department at the University of Vermont Medical Center, along with the nurses at the VNA. Special recognition is given to his siblings, his neighbors (including his snow angels), and his dear friends, Arnold Parot, Mike Ovitt, Gary Larrow, John Mercure, Paul Villemaire, Paul Devino and Dick Mazza. Their friendship and support meant a lot to him. Upon Buzz's request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 27, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 3 St. Peter St., Winooski, followed by burial. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the burial at the Sunset Ballroom (Comfort Suites), 1712 Shelburne Road, South Burlington, until 5 p.m. Please join us in sharing your memories of Buzz.
