Obituary
Robert J. Methot, 93, of South Burlington passed away September 5, 2015 in his home. His parents were Jean-Charles Methot and Lillian (Turgeon) Methot. He was born in Portland, Maine March 25, 1922, grew up in Groveton, NH and graduated from Groveton High School where he was on the football team. In later years he resided in Washington, D.C. and Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, and Shavertown, PA before moving back to New England in 1968. He was a registered architect in Pennsylvania and Vermont and a former member of the American Institute of Architects. He began his career in the 1940's as a draftsman, moving on to structural engineering before earning his architect's registration. He mainly designed commercial structures including hospitals and schools. Mr. Methot started his professional career with the firm Lacey, Atherton, & Davis in Wilkes-Barre, PA and later worked in Vermont for Freeman French Freeman and Wiemann and Lamphere Architects as well as being the sole architect for Pizzagali Construction. A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, he served in the Philippines where he earned the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with Service Star. He was discharged in 1946 having risen to the rank of sergeant. Reading was his passion, especially Historical Biographies, and also enjoyed fishing on the Winooski River with his son Bobby, working around the house, playing cribbage and an annual family vacation to Maine. He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years, Jayne (Dettemore), his sons Rick Methot of Titusville, NJ and his wife Suzanne; David Methot of Hinesburg and his wife Rachel, Robert Methot Jr. of South Burlington and a daughter Jayne Methot-Walker of Grand Isle and her husband George. Also five grandchildren: Brian Methot of Lilburn, GA; Katie Gribbin of Bordentown, NJ, Nathan Methot of Ferrisburg, Lucy Walker of Grand Isle and Claire Walker of Portland, Oregon. He has one great grandson Colin Methot of Lilburn, GA. He was preceded in death by his son Charles, daughter Robin, and his grandson, Nicholas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM Friday September 18 at St. John Vianney Parish in South Burlington. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St John Vianney.
