Arlie Downing Accomac, Virginia Obituary

Arlie Downing

Bro. Arlie A. Downing, son of the late Arthur Downing and Lottie Downing Major was born on December 10, 1920 in Bullbeggar, Virginia. He entered into eternity peacefully at home on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at 7:15 am. Bro. Downing’s journey for Jesus began on December 3, 1950 when he was baptized in a pool by Bishop James L. Brown and again on October 18, 1970 in the Lewes River by Bishop W. S. Simmons. Every since his baptism in the name of Jesus, Bro. Downing lived and proclaimed the life of holiness. Bro. Downing remained a faithful member of The Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ, Inc., for over 60 years. Bro. Downing retired as Supervisor for the Temperanceville Office of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) where he worked for thirty-two years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and building. He was a man of few words, but possessed a voice of wisdom and encouragement. Bro. Downing allowed Jesus to keep him in perfect peace. He had two favorite songs, “How to Reach the Masses” and “Jesus Never Fails”. Whenever asked how he was doing, he would always respond, “Fairly well.” Bro. Downing shared words of life, trials and tribulation through the years with many, but Donald Milbourne of Pocomoke City, MD; Albert Williams of New Church, VA; Kinsey Rew of Withams, VA; and William Corbin of Mappsville, VA all shared a brotherly bond that will be greatly missed in the community. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Willard, Vernon, Robert, Sr.; three sisters: Estella, Lillie, and Clarssie. Many fond memories will remain and cherished by his wife of sixty-seven years, Mother Mary Gladys Downing of Withams, VA. two brothers: Paige D. Downing (Martha) of Pittsville, NJ and Hezziekiah Downing, Sr., of Vineland, NJ. three devoted nieces: Darlaine Watson (Bobby) and Joann Fedderman both of Withams, VA, and Adella Broughton of Wattsville, VA, and two devoted nephews: Elder Robert L. Downing (Loretta) of Vineland, NJ and Dr. J. Jermaine Fedderman of Painter, VA. two great nieces: Tomika Smith of Newport News, VA, and Jordan Fedderman of Painter, VA and four great nephews: Jeffrey Downing, Loshaun & Ryshaun Trader all of Withams, VA, and Jaylen Fedderman of Painter,VA.
