Norma Gladys Loretta Hickman Unroe, age 93, formerly of Clifton Forge died Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Danny Booth of Moneta. She was born October 24, 1908 at Marlinton, West Virginia a daughter of the late Walter and Georgia Tyree Hickman. Mrs. Unroe was a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Clifton Forge. Surviving are six daughters and sons-in-law, Lucille Deeds of Covington, Brenda and Danny Booth of Moneta, Vera Davis of Elkin, NC, Sarah and Allen Lowe of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Sandy and Pete Nicely of Lynchburg and Trudy Unroe of White Sulphur Springs, WV; two sons and daughter-in-law, Harley and Jane Unroe of Roanoke and Ralph Unroe of Clifton Forge; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Unroe of Strasburg, VA; two sons-in-law, Kenny Reid of Eagle Rock and Clarence Russell of High Point, NC; 47 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren and 46 great-great grandchildren; numerous special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Strong Unroe in 1968; two sons, Richard Unroe and an infant who died at birth; three daughters, Loretta Reid, Louise Deeds and Linda Russell; two sisters, Alpha Campbell and Lucy Farmer; one brother, Ward Hickman and one step-brother, Seth Unroe. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 28, 2002 from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Dr. William E. “Buzzy” Robertson, Jr., Dr. Gene Arnold , Rev. Mike Ward and Rev. Bill Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and anytime at the residence of 406 South Craig Ave., Covington. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Bedford Hospice, Volunteers, 815 Summitt Street, Bedford, VA 24523 or to the Immanuel Baptist Church, Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422. Active pallbearers will be Bruce Reid, Kelly Dwiggins, Lewis Kern, Ira H. Deeds, Jr., Dwayne Booth, Pete Reid, Michael Unroe and Richard Unroe, Jr. Alternate and Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
