Mr. Harry Gene Brown, age 73, of Covington, died Thursday, May 10, 2018, at LewisGale Medical Center, Salem. He was the husband of Janet Whitmore Brown. Mr. Brown was born May 16, 1944 in Covington, the son of the late Harry L. Brown and Helen Brown. He served his country as a member of the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. Harry had been employed as an over the road truck driver with ABF Freight before his retirement. He enjoyed being an amateur radio operator and was a member of the Virginia Mountain Amateur Radio Club. In addition to his wife, Janet, Mr. Brown is survived by two sons, Harry E. “Butch” Brown and wife, Amanda and Troy L. Brown; a grandson, Kirby Lee Brown; two brothers, Gary Brown and wife, Libby and Cody Brown and wife, Tina; a sister, Linda Sue Flemming Reed and husband, Leon Reed; three sisters-in-law, Brenda Shaw, Marilyn Kelly and husband, Jim, and Joy Booze; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his dogs, Shadow and Kasey. In addition to his parents, Harry and Helen Brown, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Brown. A family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home and at other times, at the residence of Butch and Amanda Brown, 224 Sherry May Street, Covington. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, P.O. Box 60, Low Moor, VA 24457.
