Cynthia Salyer Obituary

Cindy Salyer – Hanahan, SC Cynthia (Cindy) Louise Salyer, (age 49), Hanahan, SC passed away, Thursday, September 7, 2017 as the result of an automobile accident in Orangeburg, SC. Cindy was born in Kingsport, TN, and is the daughter of Louise Marshall Salyer of Nickelsville, VA, and Harold Salyer of Harrisonburg, VA. Cindy leaves behind, her life partner, Edward Holton and their beloved dogs, Samantha and Holly. Cindy is preceded in death by brother-in-law, Bob Travis, and grandparents, Clyde & Victoria Marshall and Olen and Madge Salyer. Cindy also leaves behind her parents, sister Lisa Travis, Lebanon, TN, brother Gil Salyer, Louisville, KY, brother Perry Salyer and wife Melissa of Nickelsville VA, niece Amanda Salyer, Kingsport, TN, nephew Matthew Salyer, Amanda Compton, Nickelsville, VA and great nephew Bo Hudson Greene. Also left to cherish her memories are many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with the Holton family and Cindy’s extended families in the Lexington, KY, and Charleston, SC communities. A native of Nickelsville, VA, Cindy graduated from Twin Springs High School in 1986. Cindy then attended Berea College in Berea KY where she graduated in 1990 with a degree in Business Administration. Cindy then lived in Lexington, KY where she worked at Commonwealth Technologies for twelve years. She then relocated to the Charleston, SC area, where she worked at The Bloomin’ Apple for almost 13 years, and resided until her passing. She returned often to her hometown, and to the holler in which she was raised, to spend time with her family. As an infant, Cindy battled an often misdiagnosed, rare disease-Histiocytosis. She fought the disease for years and was eventually able to lead a healthy life. In recent years, Cindy and Edward ran over 120 races which included two ultra marathons and 10 half marathons. Cindy was a passionate advocate for running and physical fitness, the homeless, and neglected animals. She loved to serve others and these passions were opportunities to love and encourage both friends and strangers alike. A stranger to her was just a friend she did not know yet and Cindy always offered a smile to anyone she met. In Cindy’s memory, in lieu of flowers, you may contribute to either the Charleston Animal Society (www.charlestonanimalsociety.org), or Nickelsville First Baptist Church @11606 Nickelsville Hwy., Nickelsville, VA 24271.
