America Sheppard

America Cathern Harris Sheppard, age 82, of Council, went to be with the Lord on Monday (April 24, 2017) at Johnston Memorial Hospital, peacefully with her family by her side. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Maggie Sullivan Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, she attended Boyd and Ratliff Freewill Baptist Church and was a member of Drill Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Harris and two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Harris and Carol Sutherland. Survivors include her husband of fifty-eight years, Bill Sheppard; two daughters, Alice Sheppard and Barbara Matney and husband, Gregory; two sisters, Ada Mae Rose and husband, Everett and Mary Hallenbeck and husband, Ralph; four brothers, William Harris, Paul Harris and wife, Irene, James Harris and Ezra Harris and wife, Rosa Ellen; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson, Rev. Avery Barton and Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 5 PM Tuesday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Ray Bostic.
