Betty Helton, age 69, of Honaker, Virginia passed away Tuesday (May 2, 2017) at the home of her daughter in Swords Creek, Virginia. Born June 9, 1947 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ira Millard and Bertha Blankenship Helton. She had lived in Buchanan and Russell Counties most of her life and she enjoyed walking, crocheting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Lowe Lester; four brothers, E.K. Helton, Hurshel Helton, Virgil Helton and Hulas Helton and one sister, Peggy Helton. Survivors include four children, Melissa Kiser and husband, Mike and Michael James Lowe both of Swords Creek, Virginia, Linda Wilson and fiancé, Perry Deskins of Honaker, Virginia and Ronnie Lowe and wife, Mae of Lebanon, Virginia; eleven grandchildren, Rylar, Brianna, Jessie, Kara, Laken, Cindy, Rebecca, James, Ashley, Rachel and Xaivier; two sisters, Juanita Hale and Hester Owens; two brothers, Rev. Chester Ball and Leroy Ball; seventeen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Troy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery at Stinson Ridge, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM.
