Brandon Looney

Brandon Cody Looney, age 18, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, in Lebanon, Virginia. Born August 4, 1998 in Abingdon, Virginia, he was a son of Mike Jr. and Connie Dye Looney of Honaker, Virginia. A lifelong resident of Honaker, he attended Full Gospel Temple in Richlands, Virginia. He was a 2017 graduate of Russell County Career and Technology Center with a certificate in Auto Mechanics, including five ASE certifications. An upcoming senior at Honaker High School, he was a honored member of the Honaker Tigers Varsity Baseball team, having received 1st team All-Conference 3rd Baseman, 1st Team All-Region 3rd Baseman, and 1st Team All-State 3rd Baseman. Playing baseball was his passion, but his lifelong dream was to become an auto mechanic and own his own shop. His employment at Blue Ridge Chrysler Dodge helped fulfill that dream. In his spare time enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Elmer Michael Looney, Sr. In addition to his parents, survivors include one brother, Austin Looney of the home; maternal grandparents, Harley (who called him “Popaw’s Little Buddy”)and Barbara Dye of Honaker; special cousin, Christopher Hess and wife, Chelsey of Richlands; maternal aunt, Teresa Goodman and husband, Dennis of Richlands; maternal uncle, Steve Dye and wife, Teresa of Honaker and their son, Andrew Dye; special girlfriend, Morgan Reynolds of Honaker, Virginia; paternal grandmother, Alice Looney of Limestone, Tennessee; paternal aunts, Beverly Woodby of Jonesborough, Tennessee and her children, Alicen, Danielle and Summer and Jacqulyn Looney of Bristol and her children, Scotty and Ethan; several teammates, coaches, classmates, teachers and a host of extended family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM Monday at the Rosedale Baptist Church in Rosedale, Virginia with Rev. Dale Dotson, Chris Hess, Tony Shrader and Austin Looney officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Josh Eaton, Hartley Hilton, Dustin McCoy, Blake Stinson, Chris Marshall, Ethan Farmer, Rex Smith, Matthew Tiller, MaKenzie Phillips, Hunter Short, Buddy Marshall, Chris Hess, Trevor Dye, Chas Vencille, Blake Wilson, Johnny Vance, Chris Anderson, Greg Mullins, Matthew Testerman, and Shawn Tiller. Honorary pallbearers will be Honaker High School Baseball Team, Dave Dye, Steve Dye, Andrew Dye, John Lester, Mason Phillips, Marshall McGlothlin, Nick Compton, Jason McCoy, Peyton Johnson, Chris Whited, Austin Grizzle, Scotty Whited, Casey Dye, and Eugene Miller.
