Daisy Fletcher

Mrs. Daisy B. Ida Thompson Fletcher, age 96, of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Sunday (March 26, 2017) at her home. Born December 21, 1920 in Honaker, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Rice Richard and Gertie Wilson Thompson. She had lived in the Honaker area most of her life except for a brief time when she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II in California. She had been employed as a teaching assistant for Russell County Public Schools and also operated Fletcher Upholstery Shop with her husband for several years. She was a great believer in Sunday School and was an integral part in keeping Bethany Baptist Church alive. She loved visiting the elderly, sick, and shut-ins in their homes when she was able. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Brady Fletcher, and five siblings, Rice Thompson, Jr., Kyle Thompson, Glenn Thompson, Maxine Thompson Taylor, and Gay Thompson Cox. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn Puckett and husband, Tony of the home; one brother, Earl Thompson of Big A Mountain; two granddaughters, Sarah Whisenhunt and husband, Tim of Weber City, Virginia and Linda Wood of Honaker; two great-grandchildren, Amber Wood of Honaker and Devin Helton of the home; one great-great-granddughter, Lyric Wood of Honaker; one brother-in-law, Wayne Taylor of Honaker; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday at Bethany Baptist Church, 7523 Finney Road, Honaker, Virginia with Bro. Larry Stinson and Rev. Vonley Pruitt officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to go in procession. In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church in her honor. Pallbearers will be Devin Helton, Tim Whisenhunt, Linda Wood, Daryl Taylor, J.C. Hale, and R.L. Thompson. Members of Bethany Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Bethany Baptist Church on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
