Jerry Miller

Mr. Jerry W. “Beardy” Miller, age 68, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Sunday (April 30, 2017) at his home. Born February 6, 1949 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Harley Winifred “Penny” and Ruby Perkins Miller. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner, having been employed by Jewell Smokeless Coal Corporation. He enjoyed tending to his cows and chickens, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Rick Miller and one sister, Joyce Whited. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Dorothy Miller of the home; five children, Michael Wayne Miller, Tammy Perkins and husband, Richard, Sherry Cook and husband, Robert, Christy Miller and Bethany Davis and husband, Sterling; eight grandchildren, Tyler Perkins, Caitlin Cook, Austin Perkins, Michaela Miller, Jordan Miller, Dakota Perkins, S.J. Davis and Chandler Davis; three brothers, Dallas “Dean” Miller and wife, Sandy, James “Doug” Miller and Raymond Miller and wife, Connie; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Perkins officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday at the Perkins-Miller Family Cemetery at Miller Creek, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the Honaker Funeral Home by 1:30 PM to travel in the funeral procession. Pallbearers will be Tyler Perkins, Austin Perkins, Hunter Lester, Ricky Shelton, Harvey Honaker and Eric Davis. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Tuesday.
