Mrs. Mabel McGlothlin Combs, age 103 of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, became absent from this body to be present with the Lord on Wednesday (April 5, 2017) at the home of her daughter Sandra in Rosedale, Virginia. Born February 27, 1914 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ross and Ora Harris McGlothlin. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a devoted companion and hardworking farmer’s wife. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, and a friend to all. She was a true example of a virtuous woman as described in Proverbs 31. She was a dedicated Christian and the love of the Lord was evident in her beautiful smile and humble personality. She was the oldest member of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church on Big A Mountain and enjoyed going to church and sharing her faith with each person she met. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty-nine years, Pat Combs, one daughter, Dolly Ann Combs, one son, Harold Lynn Combs, two brothers, Paul McGlothlin and Charlie McGlothlin, and four sisters, Gedie Dotson, Janie Whatley, Lena Belcher, and Edith McGlothlin. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Honaker and husband, James “Jim” of Lebanon, Diana Combs of Bristol, and Sandra Massie and husband, Leroy of Rosedale; two sons, Bob Combs and wife, Willie of Abingdon and John Combs and fiancée, Janet Perkins of Honaker; one brother, Bill McGlothlin of Honaker; one sister, Helen Whitmore of Bristol; eight grandchildren, Ronald Combs and wife, Judy of Honaker, Brenda Compton and husband, Arlen of Arcadia, Florida, Belinda Combs and fiancé, Jarrod Cox of Bristol, Kim Watson and husband, Bill of Lebanon, Melissa Parson and husband, Everette of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christopher Gross and wife, Jennifer of Burke, Virginia, Jocelyn Street and husband, Jared of Lebanon, and Kynan Massie and wife, Leann of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; nineteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive. Special caregiver, Brenda Brown and caregivers, Jodi Duty, June Dye, Rachel Harris, Glenda Humphreys, Janet Perkins and Hillary Robinson. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Home Nursing Company of Lebanon and C-Health. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. James Sims, Rev. Virgil Musick and Rev. Billy Morefield officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Ronald Combs, Peyton Watson, Everette Parson, Christopher Gross, Kynan Massie, Dr. Richard Fenchak, and children. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill McGlothlin, members of Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church and Free Christian Church, Josh Combs, Dr. Jonathan Swank, Bill Watson, Arlen Compton, and Jared Street. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Saturday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
