Mr. Melvin Lee “Hunchie” Shelton, Jr., age 39, of Belfast, Virginia, passed away Friday (July 21, 2017) in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital. Born February 14, 1977 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a lifelong resident of the area and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. A disabled welder, he had formerly been employed by Swords Creek Welding Service. He enjoyed spending times, digging for ginseng and star root. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Lee Shelton, Sr., one brother, Ronnie Wayne Shelton, paternal grandparents, Fred and Mattie Shelton, maternal grandparents, Shade and Beulah Reynolds, aunts and uncles, Anna Dye, Shirley Dye, Doris Proffitt, Louis Faye Shelton, Margaret Ann Shelton, George Shelton, and Steve Reynolds. Survivors include his mother, Gladys Shelton and her boyfriend, Joey Johnson; one sister, Virginia Shelton Love and husband, Nathan, one brother, Michael Shelton and wife, Tammie, his girlfriend of fifteen years, Sherry Horton; one son, Justin Shelton; one daughter, Chelsey Shelton; grandson, Eli Lane Shelton; step-daughter, Desiree Horton and husband, Aron Billings; step-grandchildren, Aubree Billings, and Rylan Billings; four nephews, Brett Love, Adam Shelton, Derrick Love, and Austin Grizzle; one niece, Hannah Shelton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dan and Ann Honaker; brother-in-law, Harvey Honaker and wife, Cindy; many cousins and friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Interment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Nathan Love, Michael Shelton, Eddie Crabtree, Perry Ball, Perry Taylor, Brett Love, Derrick Love, Austin Grizzle, Raymond Snead, and Harvey Honaker. The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Tuesday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
