Mr. Raymond Reavis Hess, age 81, of the Long Branch section of Rowe, Virginia passed away (Wednesday) September 13, 2017 at his home. Born September 1, 1936 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Coy and Mary Lea Honaker Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a member of Ivy Springs Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Sylvia Jean Dye Hess; sister, Ella Mae Goetz; brother, Dorsey Hess and three infant brothers. Survivors include three children, Jeanie Whited and husband, Jess of Swords Creek, Virginia, Danny Hess and wife, Marlena of Avondale, West Virginia and Terry Hess of Craigsville, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Renada Deel and husband, Robert, Beth Jones and husband, Brian, Jessica Altizer and husband, Dustin, Jennifer Whited and companion, Jason, Brandon McGlothlin and wife, Kim, Brian Crouse and Shannon Hastings; eight great-grandchildren, Tara Deel, Maggie Deel, Paiton McGlothlin, Olivia Altizer, Madison Jones, Jaelyn Brannan, Braxton McGlothlin and Grayson Jones; five brothers, Nelson Hess and wife, Barbara, Carl Hess and wife, Marie, Harvey Hess and wife, Sue, Otis Hess and David Hess and wife, Judy; four sisters, Eula Fay Blankenship and husband, Glen, Della Gay Parkhurst and husband, Jerry, Anna Ray Moats and husband, Bobby and Linda Kay Woodward and husband, Larry; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phillip Cook and Rev. Troy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Nuckles-Hess Cemetery at Fletcher’s Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Brandon McGlothlin, Braxton McGlothlin, Stevie Hess, Robbie Deel, Jason Brannan, Rocky Hale and Ricky Hale.
