Mr. Willis Edd “Joe Bill” Rowe, age 83, of Honaker, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning (October 5, 2017) at his home. Born June 4, 1934 in Rowe, Virginia, he was a son of the late Ervin Rowe and Mae VanDyke Gillispie. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1426. He dedicated his life to Christ on July 11, 2013 and was a member of Rowe Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed being outdoors, farming and fishing, but most of all spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Myrtle Rowe and Shade VanDyke; three sisters, Betty Crigger, Phyllis Johnson and Claudette Grey. Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Ann Rowe of the home; two children, Willis Rowe, Jr. and Shellie Bowman, Teresa Campbell and husband, Wendell “Buddy”; step-daughter, Rita Sage and husband, Ronald; nine grandchildren, Christina Pourroy and husband, John, Shannon Patrick and Shelia, Ginger Hilton and husband, Matt, Jared Campbell, Joseph Sage, Brittani Short and husband, Josh, Cody Rowe and wife, Niki, Kaylan Rowe and Jaiden Fields; two brothers, Jack Rowe and Don Rowe; three sisters, Maxine Owens and husband, Bud, Pauline Baker and husband, Zeke and Jean Cleghorn; ten great-grandchildren, one expected great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff of Helping Hands Hospice, especially nurse, Laura Reynolds; The Dialysis Center at Lebanon, Dr. Ernest Henry and to everyone who has visited, called and brought food. Most of all, they sincerely thank everyone for their prayers. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Cook and Rev. Jeff Hess officiating. Entombment will follow in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Cody Rowe, Matt Hilton, Josh Short, David Nuckles, Jimmy Carpenter, George Hayes, Terry Sanders, Jeff Habeck and Mark Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Meadows, Easley Miller, Houston Miller, Michael Fletcher and Wayne Kiser. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Rowe Pentecostal Church; 2700 Breeden Branch Road, Rowe, Virginia 24646. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Friday at the Honaker Funeral Home where an evening song service will be conducted at 7 PM. Online condolences may be made at www.honakerfuneralhome.net.
