C. Michael Broderick

<p>Charles Michael (Mike) Broderick, son of the late Charles F. and Aileen Gallagher Broderick, born September 7, 1936 in Buffalo, NY, passed away peacefully at his home in Weems, VA on April 8, 2018.</p><p><br></p><p>Mike was the loving husband of nearly 55 years to Kathleen Maguire Broderick and father of Sheila Broderick Brown (Jeff) of White Stone, VA; Maureen Broderick Carrey (Brandon) of Greensboro, NC; and Susan Broderick Carlson (Craig) of Ashburn, VA. Proud grandfather of Ethan, Austin, and Brendan Brown; Bryant and Davis Carrey; Foster Sorensen and Georgia Carlson, Kelsey Carlson Settle and Stuart Carlson. He is also survived by three sisters - Charleen Quinn (Jack) of Orchard Park, NY; Kathleen Crotty (Jimmy) of Hamburg, NY; and Marleen Hoak (Ed), also of Hamburg, NY; sister-in-law Judith Maguire of East Greenbush, NY; and brother-in-law Michael Maguire (Ann), of Bellevue, WA - as well as numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1953, after his junior year at Timon High School in Buffalo, Mike entered the Franciscan Seminary in Callicoon, NY. His program of studies included coursework in Lafayette, NJ,Rye Beach, NH, and Washington, DC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Bonaventure University in 1960. In 1961, after much prayer and consideration, he realized the priesthood was not his calling. </p><p><br></p><p>Having an evident talent for the written word, in 1961 Mike became an editor at the South Buffalo News. He went on to editing positions at Darcy, Bush and Osborne, a public relations firm in Buffalo, and Cornell Aeronautical Laboratories in Cheektowaga, NY.</p><p><br></p><p>In 1969, with a move to Rochester, NY, Mike began working at Rochester Applied Science Associates where he was a contracts administrator until 1976. During this time, he earned his MBA from the University of Rochester. In 1976, he moved his family to Fairfax, VA and became a contracts negotiator for the MITRE Corporation in McLean until his retirement in 1996. </p><p><br></p><p>Mike was graced with a beautiful voice and over the course of his life sang with the Amherst Men’s Glee Club (NY), as well as the Chorus of the Genesee (NY) and the Fairfax Jubilaires (VA) Barbershop Choruses. Later, he was an active participant in the Chesapeake Chorale (VA) and a founding member of the Northern Neck Bay Tones Barbershop Chorus and a lead in the Riversong Quartet (VA).</p><p><br></p><p>Mike had a lifelong dream to live on a golf course and fulfilled that dream in retirement, residing with Kathy on the Tartan Golf Course in Weems, VA since 1998. </p><p><br></p><p>The family wishes to thank Mike’s amazing caregivers from At-Home with RWC and Hospice of Virginia, Tappahannock for their incredible care and support.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 14 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock, with a funeral mass beginning at 11:00 am. A reception will immediately follow at the parish hall. A private burial will be held at a later date.</p><p><br></p><p>As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Virginia, Tappahannock, VA; Bon Secours Physical Therapy at Rappahannock General Hospital, Kilmarnock, VA; or the Northern Neck Bay Tones, 4256 Hales Point Rd., Farnham, VA 22460.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
