Julia Vivian Olson Obituary

Julia Vivian Olson passed away peacefully on Monday, September 24, 2018, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, VA, just five days before her 91st birthday. She was born to Harry and Esther Blauch Longenecker near Annville, PA. At age 11, she became church pianist and continued as organist/pianist for 67 years in various churches where she lived. In 1959, she and her family moved to Ocean Grove, NJ where she taught organ and piano and was associated with the Hammond Organ Studio in Asbury Park, NJ and the Bricktown Organ Studio in Brick, NJ. She was a member of the Local Musicians Union, organist/choir director at the Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale, NJ, and later organist/choir director at the Reformed Church in Asbury Park, NJ. She was a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers and also taught organ at Monmouth Regional High School Adult School. In 1977, she retired from teaching and moved to Nevis, MN, where she was organist at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. She also served as President of the Park Rapids Christian Women’s Club where she served on the Music and Worship Committee, and President of the ELCW. In 1993, she moved to the Kilmarnock, VA, area and served as organist and choir director at Bluff Point United Methodist Church where she was also a member. In 2004, she moved to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Irvington, VA, where she played organ/piano for Sunday service and resident sing-alongs, formed a resident choir, and served as coordinator for weekly Bible Study.


She was the widow of Charles K. Olson and is survived by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Elaine Longenecker, Chambersburg, PA, her three daughters, Susan Morris Clingan, Kilmarnock, Julie and George Cadmus, White Stone, Charlene and John McCabe, Mashpee, MA, and a son, James C. Tice, Kilmarnock. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Susan Morris Page, Patricia Morris Oliver, Stephen Morris, Michael Morris, Jonathan McCabe, Sean McCabe, Rachel McCabe Walsh, and Charles Tice, thirteen great grandchildren, Destine Patel, Joey Page, Julian Page, Emma Oliver, Eric Oliver, Vladimir Morris, Svetlana Morris, Owen McCabe, Elise McCabe, Declan Walsh, Fionn Walsh, Abigale Tice, Trevor Tice, one great great grandson, Landon Page, a nephew, David Longenecker, and a niece, Lori Nichols.


A Memorial Service will be held at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury on Friday, October 5th at 2 p.m.Interment will be in Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
