Shirley Jean Hurd, 68, of the Moccasin section of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Born in Lebanon on August 2, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Arvil and Nellie Leona Rose Fields. Shirley was a member of Memorial Chapel Church and loved gardening, farming and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Eddie Hurd; daughter, Sandy Johnson and husband Joseph C.; son, Kenny Hurd; brothers, Kenneth Fields and wife Susie, Joe Fields and wife Sandra and Jerry Fields; sisters, Faye Hurd and Frances Jones and husband Danny; grandchildren, Kristin Johnson, Mikayla Johnson, Savanna Hurd, and Dartanion Hurd and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Joseph C. Johnson, Wayne Easterly, Johnny Easterly, John Poston, James Fields, Joey Fields, and Tim Fields. Honorary pallbearers will be Buster Dean, Tom Boyd, Roger Jessee, Bert Lee Mullins, Bob Dorton, Dan Wise, Jim Campbell, Terry Webb and the men of Memorial Chapel Church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at 8 p.m. in the Owens Funeral Service Chapel with Sam Reynolds and Bill Osborne officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, Va.
