Mr. Chester W. Simmons, age 92 of Baskerville, died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Rosa L. Simmons of the home; three sons, Herbert N. Simmons of Brodnax, Willie L. Simmons of Hampton, and Melvin W. Simmons of Hopewell; two daughters, Sylvia L. Bellanca of Oxford and Hilda M. Rainey-Farrar of Chester; six grandsons, four granddaughters, fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Ruben Simmons of Baskerville, Benjamin Simmons of NJ, and George Simmons of VT and two sisters, Lucy S. Buggs of NC and Sallie B. Walker of OH. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his son, Michael A. Simmons, two brothers, John W. Simmons & Sterling A. Simmons and four sisters, Dorothy Hardy, Lillie Andrews, Roberta Gaskins, and Annie Bell Davis. Mr. Simmons was a retired farmer. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7pm, Sunday, October 18 at Farrar Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until the time of service. Interment will be private.
