Mr. Edwin D. Moats Sr., age 58, died in the comfort of his home in South Hill on Thursday, July 21, 2011 from a long fight with cancer. He was born, January 22, 1953 in Petersburg, West Virginia. He was raised in Bronx, New York where he graduated from John J. College with his degree in Criminal Justice. He later took the role as a provider, loving husband, and father. He will always be remembered for his loving conversations, his love for fishing and sports, and most of all his family. He loved his family more than anything. He was preceded in death by his father Denver Moats, his stepfather Dominick Vittello, his brother William Redman and his son Charles Moats. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Andrea Moats (Young) of the home, seven children, Christopher Moats, Alphonso Young (Nicole), Edwin Moats Jr. (Jessica), William Moats (Tahara), Anglique Moats, Donavan Moats, and Frances Moats. He leaves behind 5 grandchildren, Quaishawn, Aaliyah, Juamonte, Jaden and Harmony, his mother Charlene Moats, two sisters in law Alexia Marks and Stephanie Newton, two nieces Degina Russell and Jenice Pagan and nephew Leon Russell along with many great aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in the Herbert L. Farrar Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.
