Mr. Fred Claude Forberg, Jr. passed away on December 19th. He fought with strength and courage for twelve weeks in the intensive care unit of Duke University Hospital and Durham Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susanne Webb Forberg; two daughters, Gretchen Forberg Rea of Statesville, NC and Ingrid Forberg May and her husband Frank of Shamong, NJ; three grandchildren; Jeffrey Allen Rea, Jr and Isabel Sprunt Rea of Statesville, NC and Zachary Braxton May of Shamong, NJ; his mother Mary Lovern Forberg, his sister Christie Forberg Freeman and her husband Mark; his brother, Mark Lovern Forberg all of Richmond; his brother-in-law, William Gordon Webb and his wife Debbie of Shawsville, VA and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Fred Claude Forberg and brother, Andrew Hartvig Forberg. Fred was born in Richmond, VA on November 29, 1943. He was a member of the second graduating class of George Wythe High School in 1962 and was a 1967 graduate of Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration He began his business career at Firestone Synthetic Fibers Co. in 1967, first as a methods and standards engineer and then later a cost accountant. After receiving his Masters in Business Administration from VCU in 1973, Fred took a position with BASF Corporation in Williamsburg, VA as a cost accountant. He was later transferred to Sylvania, GA as a cost supervisor. He was promoted to controller of the Kearny, NJ plant in 1981 and moved to Charlotte, NC in 1990 as the controller of the BASF plant with responsibility for the Southeast Regional Accounting Services. Fred was on the Board for Mecklenburg County Roanoke River Rails to Trails and was a member of the finance committee and trustee of Zion United Methodist Church in Union Level, VA where services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 10am. Visitation will be at Farrar Funeral Home in South Hill, VA from 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 21st. A graveside service will be conducted at 3pm Thursday, Dec. 22 at Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond Va.
