Mr. Henry Callis, age 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 11, 2010. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Daisy Brame Callis, his parents Willie and Annie Callis, and two sisters, Frances Arrington and June Cole. He is survived by his brother, W.F. Callis and wife, Ruby and his sister Barbara Roberts. Henry is survived by his daughter, Donna Callis, son Steve Callis and wife Daneille; son David Callis and his wife Janet; daughter Rose Towell and husband John, adopted daughter Ann Combo, and former son-in-law Audie Murphy. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris Murphy, Linda Callis, Stacey King and husband Brian, Sheri House and husband Troy, Joan Scott and husband Norman, and Derrick Callis; and six great-grandchildren, Alex and Shelby King, T.J. and Hailey House, and Curtis and Indianna Scott. He had a host of cousins, nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, and many special friends and neighbors. Henry served in the United States Army Air Force and was a veteran of World War II. He was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than 60 years, where he had served as a deacon, teacher, and choir member. Henry was a tobacco farmer for most of his life and a state highway department employee for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and driving “Miss Daisy.” Henry will be greatly missed as he touched the lives of everyone he met. His smile, generosity, and complete love of life has left those who knew and loved him with many happy memories. The world was a better place for all who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Farrar Funeral Home in South Hill on Tuesday, April 13th at 7:00pm. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home.
