Mr. John D. Hightower, age 89 of Union Level, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at his residence. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John D. “Johnny” Hightower, Jr; and Sandra; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hightower Daniel (Brian) of South Hill and Daniel Hightower (Kacy) of Union Level. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren, Nathan, Elijah, & Lydia Daniel and Cooper & Kate Hightower; and one sister, Ethel H. Gwaltney of Union Level. Mr. Hightower was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Baisey Hightower. Mr. Hightower was a farmer and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of American Legion Post 79 in South Hill. A graveside service will be conducted at 11am, Tuesday, January 3rd by Rev. Tim Irving at Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30 until 8 at Farrar Funeral Home in South Hill.
