Mr. Pettus Hart “Pete” Rudd, Sr., age 86 of Bracey, died Tuesday, June 8, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgie C. Rudd of the home; a son, Pettus H. “Pete, Jr” Rudd of Bracey; two daughters, Joanne Lee Rudd Paynter (Wayne) of Norlina and Susan Rudd Dumaresq (Charles) of Free Union, VA; daughter in-law, Vanessa T. Rudd; and a brother, Charles D. Rudd of Bracey. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Rebecca “Becky” Rudd, Petttus “Buck” Rudd, III, Mary “Frip” Rudd, Clai R.Worley, Michael Smith, Julie Emmerson, Courtney Browning, Amiee, Rachel, Anna & Charlotte Dumaresq; and eight great-grandchildren, McKayla Smith, Lila Hart Smith Pettus Hart Rudd IV, Josie Alma Corey, Cole & Caitlyn Browning , Jack Emmerson and Colton Worley. Mr. Rudd was preceded in death by his son, William Claiborne “Bill” Rudd and a brother Lee. W. Rudd, Jr. Mr. Rudd was a prominent land developer and the visionary of Tanglewood Land Company. He developed over 20 sub-divisions, many on Lake Gaston. Previous to TLC, he worked with American Central Corporation, Lansing Michigan where he developed serveral subdivision in Virginia and North Carolina. He was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and a past Deacon, a former Chairman of the Board of CMH, a former member of the Mecklenburg County Zoning Board, Lake Gaston Weed Control Board and the Pace American Bank Board. He was also a veteran of the U S Army. A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2pm Friday, June 10 at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Blackridge, VA with interment to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in South Hill. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 2-4pm at Farrar Funeral Home in South Hill.
