WILLIE MAE MOOREFIELD OAKLEY, age 88, died on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at her home. A native of Person County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Leonard Moorefield and Mary Moorefield, both deceased. Willie Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Vernon B. Oakley Sr. and by her brother, Ellis Moorefield. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of South Hill, Virginia, and a very devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by three sons, Vernon B. Oakley Jr. and wife, Betty of South Hill; Woody L. Oakley and wife, Cynthia of South Hill; and Dr. Melvin L. Oakley and wife, Deborah of Eufaula, Alabama; and a daughter, Charlotte O. Hoy and husband, Douglas of Burlington, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Christa Moore (Michael) of Birmingham, Alabama, Brad Oakley (Tiffany) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Matthew Oakley (Holly) of Hoboken, New Jersey, Amy Oakley and Jennifer Waller of South Hill, Virginia, Laura Bailey (Ray) of Burlington, North Carolina; Martha Strick (David) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; and William Oakley (Katie) of Wilmette, Illinois; twelve great grandchildren; sisters Geraldine M. Crum (Madison) of Hillsborough, North Carolina; Alice M. Whitfield (Richard) of Roxboro, North Carolina, and brother Eugene Moorefield, of Roxboro, North Carolina; three very special caregivers, Sharon Baskerville, Josette Cole and Carrie James. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of South Hill, by Dr. Kevin Rosenfeld, with interment following the service at Crestview Memorial Cemetery in South Hill, Virginia.
