George Haymaker Obituary

George H. Haymaker, Sr., 83, of Winchester, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home. Mr. Haymaker was born November 3, 1933 in Winchester; the son of Howard Hunter Haymaker, Sr. and Margaret Eagle Haymaker. He was a 1953 graduate of John Handley High School. He served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army. He owned and operated G.H. Masonry, he co-owned Brix and Stix, College Park Grocery and Haymaker Homes. He loved to fish and hunt. He married Mary Anne Higgs on February 5, 1964 in Hagerstown, MD. Along with his wife, his is survived by his children, Tina Haymaker Clem (Gary), Joseph C. Higgs (Nancy), George H. “Bud” Haymaker, Jr., and Rebecca Jayne Haymaker, two brothers, Howard Hunter “Big Man” Haymaker, Jr., and Philip William Haymaker; one sister, Margie Anne Haymaker Jenkins; and six grandchildren, Jacobe Higgs, Joshua Higgs, Tressa McMillan, Zachary McMIllan, Katie Clem Garrett, and Ricky Clem. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 12-1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to benefit Mr. Haymaker’s great grandson, J.T. Higgs, in care of First South Bank, P.O. Box 99, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
