Alvan Dale Meyer

Alvan Dale Meyer, 90, a lifetime resident of the Harbor, died at his home in Aberdeen, Sunday, August 23, 2015. Dale was born in South Bend, Washington on March 5, 1925, the son of Joseph and Etta (Eppard) Meyer. The family soon came to Aberdeen and Dale attended schools there until he joined the Army during World War Two where he then served at Normandy, the Ardennes, the Rhineland and in Central Europe before being discharged in 1946. He would receive his high school diploma while in the Army. Upon return to Aberdeen he went to work at Grays Harbor Paper and become a paper maker, a vocation he would hold until he retired in 1987. On September 17, 1960 he would marry Billie Bolam in Naches, Washington. They would later make their home in Ocean Shores. It was there that Billie would pass in 2005. Dale would come to Aberdeen to live with his daughter, Robin Ellerton, in 2011. Dale was a member of the Westport Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ocean Shores Elks Lodge and also a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed clam digging and watching NASCAR races and the Seahawks. Dale is survived by three sons: Jon Meyer, Aberdeen, Robert and wife Pauline Long, Surprise, AZ and Mark and wife Marla Bolam, Montesano; a daughter: Robin and husband Brian Ellerton, Aberdeen; a nephew Ken Thompson, Couer d’Alene, Idaho and a niece Nancy Owens, Brookings, OR; and also five grandchildren and five great grandchildren Visitation will be on Monday, August 31st from 9 AM until service time. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 31st in Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen. Pastor Bob Hoem, pastor of the Galilean Lutheran Chapel of Ocean Shores, will officiate.
