Dolores Frances Maki, 79, lifetime Aberdeen resident and Greeter at Wal-Mart in Aberdeen, died Monday morning, May 9, 2011 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, while surrounded by her loving family. She journeyed to her loved ones in Heaven peacefully. Dolores was born on June 19, 1931 in Aberdeen to Joseph & Pearl Eileen (Jurva) Kistler. She graduated from Aberdeen’s Weatherwax High School in 1949. She then married John Reino Maki on August 9, 1952 in Olympia’s Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. John died on October 22, 2008. Dolores worked for St. Joseph Hospital and then for 12 years with Dr. Boyd Myers. She then took time off to care for her grandchildren. After that she worked for awhile for Grays Harbor Health & Rehab in Aberdeen for a few years. In 1994 she started working in the Fabric Dept and as a greeter for Wal-Mart until last week when she became ill. Dolores was known as "Gramma" by many and was the "Gramma of Wal-Mart". She loved her job, looked forward to seeing the many customers that would stop to visit and enjoyed working with her fellow associates. Dolores was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, loved to read, crochette and loved her seven cats dearly. She held a special place in her heart for all animals and her doors were always open for a lost or lonely stray. Dolores is survived by her son, John J. and wife Lori Maki of Aberdeen; Two granddaughters: Tiffany Maki of Aberdeen and Heather and her husband Jamie Robarge of Olympia; and a best friend since the age of 5, Pat Lonac. Dolores is preceded in death by a brother, Joseph D. Kistler of Puyallup in 2008. There will be a time of visitation on Friday, May 13th from 1-8 PM in Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 4 PM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen. The family asks that you wear purple or lavender as that was her favorite color. Inurnment with her husband John will take place at a later date in Fern Hill Cemetery.
